How to Avoid the Crowded Gyms This Month

January and February are among the worst months to visit the gym because it's overcrowded with people full of excitement for their New Year's resolutions. Their intentions are good, but their knowledge of gym etiquette is usually lacking. More often than not, you'll end up leaving more stressed out than when you walked in the door. Unfortunately for regular fitness enthusiasts, it's better to avoid going to the gym at this time of the year. However, you can't sacrifice your fitness goals for your sanity - so it's time to find other places you can get the same great workout as in a gym.

Home
The most obvious place to workout is right in your very own home. You may not have all the same equipment as at the gym, but don't let that stop you from getting a great workout. Consider getting an exercise DVD or video-coach to help you with your at-home routine. You need minimal equipment to do this, and you'll still feel the burn. The Park
If it's not too cold where you live, you can head to the park for some great cardio exercise. Sometimes you can even join an outdoor class - there will be much more room than at the gym. If you have a dog, bring it along - there's no better exercise than an intense game of Frisbee or fetch.

The Community Center
Staying fit doesn't necessarily mean you have to lift weights. You can stay in shape by playing sports or swimming. Head down to your local community center for a game of pickup basketball or volleyball or take a few laps in the pool. Getting involved in social activities is equally good for your well-being. You'll stay fit and make some new friends in the process. It's a win-win situation! You might not even go back to the gym in March.
